About QWIC
QWIC is the bestselling e-scooter brand in the Benelux. QWIC is market leader in the fast growing electric scooter market and top 10 e-bike seller. QWIC is a Dutch brand and develops, produces and commoditises lightweight electric bikes from Amsterdam. QWIC’s electric bikes will focus on urban areas. With QWIC’s products, a large part of personal mobility (now usually filled by cars) is to be operated.
Michiel Hartman and Taco Anema established QWIC in 2006 after an inspirational bike ride from Beirut to Beijing. The founders met at Delft University of Technology, which they still cooperate with. At the head office in Amsterdam a team of 26 members of staff work on the development, production and sales of lightweight electric bicycles. The innovative electrical bicycles are distributed to ca. 350 shops in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France.
How was QWIC founded?
In 2004 five Dutch friends made a 7-month bike ride of 10.000 km from Beirut to Beijing, following Marco Polo’s footsteps. Driven by the rough landscape and intrigued by the Eastern technological knowledge, two of the cyclists, both engineers, were inspired to design and build the ideal bicycle, based on electric mobility. A new brand was founded: QWIC, Quality With Innovative Convenience!
Sustainable mobility is our future
Sustainable mobility is our future! Mobility is one of the most important needs in our western civilization. The most important forms of mobility are: The car, moped/motorbike, public transport, bicycles and walking. The first two forms of mobility are equipped with internal combustion engine resulting in local pollution. The environmental damage is a growing problem in highly inhabited areas like The Netherlands.
The demand for mobility is growing, while at the same time environmental standards regarding CO2 discharge and fine particulates are becoming more complex. Furthermore, fossil fuels are becoming scarce and extremely expensive. Even the norms for noise production are becoming stricter. The growing demand for mobility, resulting in a growing amount of transportation, is already causing large environmental-, traffic- and parking problems in urban areas. QWIC helps reducing these problems.
